Into the depths of August we’ve arrived, and with it, the calm before the publishing storm of fall. This week’s new YA book releases are quieter than they have been in a while, and they’re also not as diverse as we’ve come to anticipate–even for quieter publishing weeks.
It’s a busy time of year for so many, so it makes sense there’s less here to choose from. Where and how you can step away from the mayhem that comes as we transition from long summer days to (also long) (still summer) school year season, grab the time to settle in with a good book. We’re only weeks away from the first previews of 2027 books, as well as the first “best of the year” lists–often the first hits in mid-October.
This is the time of year when I find grabbing a stack of comics most relaxing and grounding. There have been so many new titles in YA this year, and perhaps that’s a way to take a short break in the day.
So what’s new this week? We’ve got another entry into an (excellent) clown horror series, a new romantic read from a powerhouse YA writing duo about two strangers finding a lot more in common than ever expected, a darkly funny paranormal read, and several great paperbacks.
