In recent weeks, cases of ‘explosive diarrhoea’ have been reported across the US.

Impacting residents in over 17 states, the outbreak has been linked to cyclosporiasis, an infection caused by a microscopic parasite.

People are typically infected by drinking unclean water or eating food that has been contaminated, not been cooked thoroughly or washed with clean water.

On June 16, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that there had been 145 cases.
