NeurosymI’ve always loved singing. It’s safe to say I was a very shy child, but being in a choir as a teenager really helped me out of my shell; so much so that I found myself doing a music degree at university.
Most of all, though, I’ve always found singing therapeutic. So, when I found out that singing helps to relax your vagus nerve – the system that regulates your heart rate, breathing, and digestion – everything suddenly began to make sense.
The only problem is that I don’t personally feel I can start singing in the middle of a busy street or office when I feel my stress levels creeping up.
Sure, there’s yoga and I could do breathing exercises, but I find it difficult to stay consistent with them. And there’s nothing like the threat of another task to add to your stress!
