Trafalgar Square, home to Nelson’s Column, Britain’s National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery, and across the street from St. Martin-in-the-Fields, is one of London’s most iconic locations. Its open plaza is now marred by a network of barriers intended to keep Muslims from driving vehicles into the crowds that are nearly always present:

Years ago, I wrote about a terrorist who drove his vehicle into a crowd of people crossing London’s Westminster Bridge. The authorities responded by placing bollards–sardonically referred to by many as “diversity bollards”–between the lanes of automobile travel and the pedestrian sidewalks on the bridge. The same defensive measure is now being applied to Trafalgar Square.
