Ethereum’s Bigger Block Test Gets a Key Fix

Gas is Ethereum’s measure of computational work. It sets the amount of transaction processing a block can contain, rather than the number of transactions themselves. Raising Sepolia’s target from 60 million to 200 million gives the test network room to handle more than three times as much work inside a block.

200M gas in plain English

Ethereum is testing whether its software can build, distribute and validate substantially heavier blocks without slowing down the network or making it too demanding for ordinary node operators.

That does not translate into a fixed threefold increase in transactions. A simple transfer consumes far less gas than a complicated smart-contract action, so the final transaction count will depend on what users place in each block. Sepolia’s job is to show how the network performs when that workload grows.

Prysm’s update keeps the test on the intended setting

The Glamsterdam upgrade is scheduled to activate on Sepolia at 13:53:36 UTC. Prysm version 7.2.0 could run the upgrade, yet it retained a 60M gas default unless its operat...
