Honoring America's 250th Through Service

What does it mean to be "distinctively American?" This term has been thrown around to describe a wide range of things, both good and bad, over the course of our 250-year history. In the years of planning for America's Semiquincentennial, that was the question on everyone's mind, in conversations with colleagues on Capitol Hill, recent presidential administrations, and scores of stakeholders in states across the country.
