College is expensive, but the sticker price doesn’t always tell the whole story. As our own kids have gotten older and we’ve navigated college decisions firsthand, I’ve become even more convinced that there are so many creative ways to lower the cost of a college education. Scholarships are a big piece of that puzzle!
I recently asked my Instagram community to share their best tips for finding college scholarships, and you all came through with some fantastic ideas and personal experiences. One thing that really stood out to me? You usually have to be willing to dig.
The biggest scholarships aren’t necessarily the only ones worth pursuing. A $500 local scholarship, a departmental award, an employer scholarship, and a few smaller essay contests can start adding up surprisingly quickly.
And sometimes the less obvious opportunities have far fewer applicants!
