When a mother opened up about the “resentment” she felt towards her husband after doing the lion share of childcare, domestic work, and carrying the mental load for a number of years, it struck a real chord with the internet.

The burnt out parent said in a now-deleted Reddit post that for seven years she had been “the only one” dealing with the night wakes, doctor’s appointments, household errands, cleaning and anything school-related.

“I am so mentally tired,” she added, before suggesting the resentment they had harboured for their husband was “eating me alive” and she “cannot look at [her] husband the same anymore”.
