Playing Gothic Remake for the first time might be a bit surprising for fans of recent sicko RPGs like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 or Dragon's Dogma 2. Gothic doesn't have any hunger mechanics or convoluted save systems, but it does like to kick your ass in combat constantly when you first arrive in The Colony.
Enemies do a lot of damage, your weapons suck, and you have no armor, so fighting a pack of hungry molerats or giant birds is not the 'baby's first quest' difficulty it would be in another game. This isn't the Elder Scrolls, where you can just walk into a cave and come out clad in full plate—armor is rare and valuable, so it requires quest progression and lots of money to acquire and upgrade.
