Iulian Boiko is enjoying one of the best weeks of his snooker career, but the situation at home in Ukraine continues to be a constant worry.

The 20-year-old beat Ding Junhui 4-1 on Wednesday evening at the British Open to land the biggest victory of his career.

He moves into the last 16 in Cheltenham thanks to the victory over the Chinese legend and is feeling confident after a strong showing, but one that didn’t see him hit peak performance.

‘I still feel like there’s room for improvement, which is a good sign,’ he told Metro.

It has been a long journey for Boiko, despite being so young, as he first turned professional at just 14 years old.
