King Charles will not apologize or offer financial reparations for Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, rebuffing demands from campaigners ahead of his upcoming tour of the Caribbean.

The King will visit the Bahamas, Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda later this month, where reparations activists are seeking an apology and financial compensation from Britain over the slave trade.

Campaigners in the Bahamas have warned Charles not to arrive “empty-handed,” although they are unlikely to get their wish.
