Rating agency Moody’s has given Ripple’s stablecoin RLUSD an investment-grade rating: A2 long term and P-1 short term. For you in Germany, that does not change availability for now, because RLUSD still has no authorisation in the European Union as an e-money token under MiCA. The rating assesses the issuer’s creditworthiness, not your access to the token.
It is precisely this gap that makes the news interesting for German investors. A stablecoin can carry an investment-grade rating from one of the three big rating agencies and still not be tradable in the EU. What the rating covers, what it explicitly leaves open and which date in January 2027 matters for holdings is set out here.
What Moody’s A2 and P-1 ratings say about RLUSD
Moody’s has assigned two ratings. A2 is a long-term rating and sits in investment-grade territory, the upper half of the scale. It is not the top rating: above A2, Moody’s still has Aaa, Aa1, Aa2, Aa3 and A1. P-1 is the short-term rating and the highest grade Moody’s awards on that scale.
