NEAR released a cross-margin mode on its perpetuals interface on October 22, 2026. Collateral no longer sits with each position separately but as a shared balance at account level. The announcement puts it this way: "Positions now share your perps balance as margin instead of each holding its own". Among the twenty largest cryptocurrencies excluding stablecoins, that is the weakest performance this Friday. Access to leverage becomes more convenient, in other words, at the very moment the price is swinging hardest.
