I try to hold down the early shift on Power Line. On a daily basis many commenters seem to await to get a few things off their chest. Departing late this evening for London on the World War II trip to Europe that we missed last year, I don’t want to leave readers undressed or dressed up with no place to go.

We are tagging along with a group of young professionals, a historian, and a tour leader with a background of service in the Army. Each of us has been assigned a character whose story we are to tell in the character’s voice at a relevant point in the tour.

I have been assigned the part of the French General Phillippe Leclerc. I had never heard of him, but it has been a joy to study his career in this context. I have scheduled posts on General Leclerc to be published on mornings through August 5. I hope I can come up with a few other items to carry me through our return on the evening of August 9. I hope the Power Line early birds will use these posts to sound off as usual on the issues of the day.
