Police officer stabbed in Manchester city centre knife attack

Emergency services are on the scene following reports of a stabbing close to Oxford Road, near Manchester city centre this evening (May 12). There is a large police scene outside Denmark Road Sports Centre, behind the Whitworth Art Gallery. Denmark Road has been cordoned off by officers from Greater Manchester Police, as has nearby Cecil Street. Images from the area show at least eight squad cars in attendance close to the entrance of the sports complex. An eyewitness has told the Manchester Evening News a police officer was the victim of an attack. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area. Motorists should make alternative travel arrangements where possible.
