Supporting Israel Is “Hard Right”?

AIPAC–the American Israel Public Affairs Committee–supports office holders and candidates that support Israel and the American-Israeli alliance. AIPAC has always supported both Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives. In recent years, as support for Israel has waned on the left, AIPAC has donated to more Republicans than Democrats, but in the 2024 election cycle, AIPAC endorsed 129 Democrats. So it is a thoroughly bipartisan organization.

Which makes today’s New York Times correction notable:

An article on July 16 about a measure to eliminate U.S. aid to Israel that had the support of nearly half of House Democrats inaccurately described the lobbying group AIPAC. It describes itself as pro-Israel with a commitment to helping pro-Israel candidates win elections and helping defeat detractors of the U.S.-Israel relationship, but it not [sic] a hard-right organization.

You see what is happening here: the Times is trying to demonize support for Israel by falsely suggesting that only the “hard right” is friendly toward that nation. They were called on it this time, but the effort won’t s...
