Taking Care With AI Regulation

Artificial intelligence scares people, whether because it may doom the planet, hollow out the real economy, or endanger national security. But as public calls to regulate the technology grow, and Congress and the administration debate their policy options, the government must be mindful not to sacrifice AI competition in the name of safety. Doing so would deliver neither. As the president's Super Intelligence Task Force sets out this administration's AI policy priorities, there are three guiding principles it should follow.
