Three people have died after a serious crash involving two cars in Northumberland on a road plagued by collisions.
The A1 near Alnwick, south of the historic Lindisfarne Castle and the Scottish Borders, was closed for hours after the crash yesterday afternoon.
Emergency services were alerted after reports of the smash between Denwick and South Charlton at about 2.30pm.
While the exact cause of the incident is under investigation, one of the vehicles, a silver Volkswagen Polo travelling north, is said to have collided with a southbound red Hyundai i20.
