Questing through the World of Warcraft: Forever beta, I've been impressed by just how much has been layered on top of the game's Classic world—new quests and new dungeons, designed to slot in seamlessly to the more oldschool playstyle without causing too much friction. It's an impressive magic trick, and one I'm really excited to get stuck into properly come November.
Talking to associate production director Clay Stone, Forever initially had far more humble beginnings: "It's been an evolution, and I think that's probably pretty clear from all the classic titles we've done so far in the level of experimentation and breaking away from #NoChanges at the beginning."
While Mists of Pandaria Classic and Wrath of the Lich King Classic added small changes and adjustments, Stone says the ball really got rolling with Hardcore and Season of Discovery:
